Professional Organizations
The American Society of Interior
Designers is the country’s leading professional organization for interior designers, as well as the oldest and largest.
Professional Members must meet rigorous acceptance standards, including a combination of accredited design education and/or full-time work experience, and must pass a two-day accreditation examination administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).
The National Council for Interior Design Qualification is the global leader in establishing standards of competence for interior design and interior architecture professionals. NCIDQ has certified competent interior design professionals since 1974, as an independent organization of state and provincial credentialing bodies.
NCIDQ Certificate holders are professionals with proven knowledge, experience and proficiency in the latest interior design principles and practices. They must have a minimum of six years of specialized education and experience and pass a rigorous, two-day exam based on NCIDQ’s independent, comprehensive analysis of the profession and its daily practices.
Recognition
John Wodatch, Esq. with Jean Tessmer, as she receives her 2008 Hawaii State DCAB ADA Commercial Design award.
Mr. Wodatch was one of the lead attorneys who created and implemented Section 504 of the 1973 federal Rehabilitation Act, and was again one of the lead attorneys who created the Americans with Disabilities Act. Since then he has been Chief of the Disability Rights section of
the U.S. Department of Justice.
Governor Linda Lingle with Jean Tessmer. Ms Tessmer received a 2007 Hawaii State Disability and Communication Access Board (DCAB) award for her work in ADA Prviate Commercial Design, and a second award for Private Residential Design.
DCAB is part of the Hawaii Department of Health, and serves as a public advocate for persons with disabilities, recommends legislation, establishes guidelines for building design, and approves site specific design for equal access.
